Turret Changes

So, as some, if not all of you are aware, Wildcard will be making some changes to Turrets (all turrets, X Plants, Auto, and Tek) next week. These changes include only allowing 100 turrets per 10,000 units. This translates to roughly 34x34 foundations. With this change, turrets will also be getting a general 20% damage buff to all targets.

This will be forced on official servers, but is optional for servers like ours. We will be activating these changes to help improve our servers' performance. I have been getting many reports about our servers crashing more and more as time has gone on (more players, structures, etc), particularly on the weekends when the most raids occur.

Now, I know for some, these changes suck. I completely agree. But, along with these increased numbers crashes, I've also got an increased number of reports of people losing dinos and items due to these crashes. By implementing these turret changes, it should help alleviate headaches for everyone.

What else will change?

Since 100 turrets within a 34x34 foundation radius isn't a whole lot, on top of the 20% damage increase, we will also be increasing the turret damage setting to re-balance the turrets. Currently, it is set to 1.5 to balance out the increased dino health stats. But the turret damage will be increased, once these turret changes go live, to 2.0 to make up for the turret placement limit. So not only will turrets be getting an extra 20% damage buff overall, but the damage will be doubled on top of that.

Testing

I will be conducting tests this week to get a baseline to compare the performance increases for the new turret changes. If you would like to assist in testing this, please DM me on Discord or here. The preferred tribes to test this are bases that don't have other tribes nearby, and have a lot of turrets. This will include me throwing dinos into your turrets, but the bullets will be reimbursed.
